The Chumpepoke community lies in the mountains overlooking the Sacred Valley of Peru. Here dedicated teachers help prepare the children for life in their community and, more and more, in the larger communities where they can find work. As the farms are divided among offspring each generation, it is difficult to make livings off the small parcels, so additional skills help these families survive.

The community is helped by the Willka Tika Children’s Fund (registered with the IRS, so donations are tax-deductible in the U.S.). The government can give these schools only limited support and education is the main path to a better life.

In their colorful dress that hasn’t changed for centuries, the children sang, danced, performed a pageant about the courtship of the Inca Poke and Chumpe princess.  ... Mary
